- Roborock unveiled the RockAqua P1 at IFA 2026, advertising 15cm shallow-platform cleaning and 6,800 GPH suction.
- Australian reporting now points to a January 2027 launch. Local pricing remains undisclosed; a launch window is not a guaranteed delivery date.
- My recommendation: keep it on the shortlist if you can wait. If you need a cleaner this spring, compare locally sold alternatives against your actual pool.
First, an update to the Australian launch story
When I first shortlisted this story, Australian availability was unclear. That has moved on. GadgetGuy's 4 September report says Roborock confirmed a January 2027 launch, with Australia and New Zealand first in line. Roborock also has an Australian RockAqua product page, although it does not yet give a price or a checkout option. I've linked both sources below.
That timing matters. If you're reading this in September, waiting means getting through spring and the start of summer with whatever you use now. For someone with a working cleaner, that's easy enough. For someone hauling leaves out of the pool every weekend because their old robot has died, January is a fair way off.
I haven't tested the P1. This is my assessment of the announcement and the buying decision, not a review score dressed up as news. I'd be interested in trying it, but liking a brand's indoor robots isn't enough reason to recommend its first pool cleaner.
The 15cm claim is the part worth watching
Roborock's IFA page highlights cleaning on shallow platforms with 15cm of water above them. For a pool with a broad sun shelf, that could be useful. For a straightforward pool without one, it may make very little difference to your weekly clean.
Measure your ledge before getting excited. Water depth is only one part of the problem: the available turning space, the step into it, the finish and the route back out matter too. A minimum-depth claim should never become an assumption that every little step will be cleaned.
I'd want a demonstration on a pool shaped like mine. Can it get onto the shelf, turn around, collect debris near the edge and get back down without help? A robot that technically reaches an area but leaves you brushing it afterwards hasn't solved much.
What else has Roborock actually announced?
The Australian product page lists vision-guided debris targeting, drain-cover avoidance, waterline scrubbing, a 4L basket and two filter layers rated at 180 and 70 microns. It also describes automatic waterline parking after a clean or below 15% battery, quick drainage for lifting, and app scheduling. Those are manufacturer claims.
Its footnotes deserve a read. The shallow-depth result comes from internal testing. Debris pickup was tested in straight-line floor cleaning at depths of at least 0.5m, using materials including eucalyptus leaves and fine sand. That isn't evidence of equivalent pickup on a shallow ledge.
The questions I'd take into a hands-on test are less glamorous: how often does the basket need emptying, how awkward is the lift, and what happens when it misses the parking spot? I also want the final Australian manual, battery and charging details, replacement-filter prices and warranty terms before making a value call.

Don't buy a pool robot on the biggest suction number
The other headline on the global IFA page is 6,800 gallons per hour, also expressed as roughly 25,700 litres per hour. GPH describes a water-flow rate. It isn't a score for how clean your pool will be when the robot finishes.
The useful outcome is dirt in the basket. I'd judge that alongside missed areas, filter clogging, the time spent rescuing the robot and the effort of washing it out. Without comparable test conditions, a larger advertised flow figure doesn't establish that one machine cleans better than another.
The same caution applies to AI. Recognising a leaf sounds great. Getting around the whole pool reliably, including when there aren't obvious leaves to chase, is what makes the thing useful over a season.
Dolphin, Aiper and Beatbot give you something concrete to compare
I'd start with the following locally listed products. This is a comparison of published features, not a controlled cleaning test or a claim that every dealer has stock today.
Dolphin EON 100 and EON 120d: Maytronics advertises floor, wall, waterline, step and sun-ledge coverage down to 20cm for pools up to 15m long. The 120d adds DebrisLock filtration and a three-year warranty, versus two years on the 100. Its Australian site offers a demo enquiry, which is a sensible next step if your pool has tricky ledges.
Aiper Scuba V3: the Australian page promotes AI patrol, waterline cleaning, a charging dock and waterline retrieval alerts, with a claimed 4,800 GPH flow. That's relevant if navigation and everyday handling are your priorities. Don't borrow shallow-platform specifications from the separately named V3 Ultra and assume they apply to this model.
Beatbot Sora 30: the official Australian distributor lists it at A$1,499, with a two-year warranty, water-surface parking and the same advertised 6,800 GPH figure as the P1. Its shallow-platform specification is eight inches of water, approximately 20cm, with a minimum platform area of 3.3 by 3.3 feet, roughly one metre square. Check those dimensions against your pool, not just the headline depth.
That gives the P1 a potentially interesting shallow-water advantage on paper. It doesn't tell us what that advantage will cost. At an unknown Australian price, calling it either a bargain or overpriced would be guesswork.
Waterline cleaning doesn't replace a surface skimmer
This is an easy distinction to miss in product pictures. Scrubbing the band around the edge is a different job from roaming across the surface and collecting leaves before they sink. Roborock's current P1 page does not advertise surface skimming.
If your main complaint is a fresh blanket of floating leaves every morning, start by deciding how you want to handle that job. You may prefer a net, a dedicated surface robot, or a model explicitly sold for both surface and submerged cleaning. A shiny new floor robot shouldn't distract you from the chore you're actually trying to remove.
So, would I wait?
If my current cleaner still worked and a shallow shelf was the one area it couldn't handle, yes, I'd keep the P1 on the shortlist until the Australian price and proper reviews arrive. Waiting costs relatively little when your pool is already being looked after.
If I needed a cleaner now, I wouldn't put the purchase on hold just because Roborock announced one. I'd compare current options, ask for a demonstration where possible and make sure the seller understood my pool's dimensions and surfaces. There is value in having the job done through spring and December.
And if my pool had no shallow shelf? I'd give that feature much less weight. Filtration, dependable coverage, retrieval and local support would matter more to me than winning a minimum-depth contest.
My verdict for now: interesting enough to watch, too early to buy on reputation. Once we know the price and how it behaves outside a launch demonstration, we'll have a much better argument for waiting. Until then, buy for the pool you have and the cleaning you need done.
