The short version
What you need to know.
- The offer supplies a FoxESS L-series 7 kW charger; licensed-electrician installation is your cost.
- Eligible private buyers must deposit by 31 December 2026, then complete purchase and take delivery.
- Renault lists POA and coming soon. Charger supply can follow vehicle delivery by 31 business days.
A useful extra, with a separate installation bill
A free home charger is the sort of EV offer that makes practical sense. You are buying a car that needs somewhere to plug in, so including the wallbox removes one purchase from the list. I’d still start with the full driveway-to-switchboard picture before handing over a deposit.
Renault Australia’s launch offer pairs the new Megane E-Tech with a FoxESS L-series 7 kW charger, listed at $749 RRP excluding installation. That is the hardware value Renault quotes, not a promise that your home-charging setup will cost nothing.

Check the dates before making plans
The offer is for private retail customers placing a $200 online deposit by 31 December 2026. You must subsequently complete the purchase and take delivery. Fleet, government and rental buyers are excluded, and the charger cannot be swapped for cash or credit.
Timing deserves a proper look. Renault allows production and delivery lead times of up to 12 months, with the charger supplied within 31 business days after vehicle delivery. Those are business days, and the car can arrive first. Ask the dealer how you will charge during that gap rather than assuming the wallbox will be waiting at home.
The deposit does not guarantee a vehicle purchase. Availability and a purchase contract with a Renault dealer still apply. Keep a copy of the offer terms and confirm how eligibility will be recorded on your paperwork.
Price the charging setup you can actually use
Installation is your responsibility and must be done by an appropriately licensed electrician. Get a site-specific quote covering the cable route, switchboard work, protection and any load-management requirements. Ask what is included and what could change after inspection. A supplied charger is only useful if your property can accommodate it.
For an apartment or rental, sort out parking access and permission early. Our apartment EV charging guide covers the building questions. If you already have charging, ask whether the included unit adds anything useful; there is no cash alternative.
Have solar or a battery? Check the exact charger’s controls and compatibility with your existing equipment. The offer alone does not establish solar-surplus charging or integration with your inverter. Compare home EV chargers around your charging window and electricity tariff, not just the biggest power number.
The car still needs to win the comparison
Renault’s Australian page lists a 67 kWh battery, up to 480 km WLTP range and 160 kW/300 Nm. It quotes roughly 24 minutes from 15–80% using a 130 kW DC charger, subject to charging conditions. That fast-charging figure is separate from the included 7 kW home unit; WLTP is a laboratory comparison, not a guaranteed road-trip distance.
As checked on 29 October, the page says POA and coming soon. Get a written vehicle price, final Australian specification and realistic delivery estimate. Overseas images and features may differ, so do not use a global brochure as your local order sheet.
My take: treat the charger as a useful extra after comparing the complete deal. Put the car, installation quote, charging access and waiting time together. If that package suits your life, the offer helps. If it does not, a free wallbox will not rescue the purchase.
