The short version
What you need to know.
- Australian MSRP is $47,990; request a complete drive-away quote for your state.
- Lepas specifies 65kWh, 160kW, 275Nm and 440km WLTP range.
- Dealer test drives are scheduled from early November; a launch announcement is not a delivery booking.
A new badge, and an actual Australian price
Australia is hardly short of electric SUVs, so a new badge needs to offer more than another large touchscreen and a name you have to explain at the barbecue. Lepas, part of Chery Group, has now put a concrete Australian price against its L6 BEV: $47,990 MSRP.
That comes from the brand’s 16 October launch announcement. It is not a drive-away promise. Ask for the total including on-road costs and any extras, then compare that figure with the other cars on your list.
The announcement schedules dealer test drives from early November. As of 24 October, that remains ahead of us. Confirm demonstrator availability and the delivery timing for your chosen colour in writing. Carbon crystal black is specifically described as preorder only. I have not driven the L6, so this is a buying preview rather than a road test.
Enough range for your week?
Lepas quotes a 65kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, 160kW and 275Nm, with 440km of WLTP range. Those are the current Australian launch figures. The useful question is whether the car fits your routine with a comfortable margin, not whether you can squeeze every advertised kilometre out of it.
Think about a normal week and your awkward trips: work, school, a weekend away, passengers and luggage. Ask how your route and charging options change the plan. A range figure is a comparison tool, not a reservation for the last charger before the holiday park.
The launch statement quotes 30–80 per cent DC charging in 22 minutes using a 120kW charger. Keep that charging window attached to the number; it does not describe an empty-to-full stop. For a demonstration or dealer explanation, ask about the conditions behind it and what to expect on the chargers you actually use.
The equipment list earns a closer look
The Australian release lists a 13.2-inch central display, 8.88-inch instrument screen, wired and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, eight-speaker Sony audio and 50W wireless device charging. A panoramic roof includes a retractable shade. That last detail is worth trying before summer has its say.
Bring your own phone to the test drive. Pair it, enter a destination and find the controls you use every day. Check the seat position and visibility, then load the boot with the sort of things your household carries. A convincing showroom demonstration should survive contact with a pram.
Also look beyond the screen. The standard 19-inch wheels might look the part, but I would ask about replacement tyre availability and cost. Small ownership details are easier to discuss before signing than when a tyre has introduced itself to a kerb.

The ownership questions matter
Lepas advertises seven-year unlimited-kilometre vehicle coverage and eight years or 200,000km for the battery. Its Australian model page says roadside assistance renews with scheduled authorised servicing. Request the full terms, service schedule and local support arrangements rather than treating the headline as the entire ownership plan.
For Perth buyers, the MY27 specification sheet has an especially relevant footnote: its remote-parking feature carries a warning that WA law requires a person behind the wheel with full control. Have the dealer explain what is usable locally; an equipment dot is not a reason to assume every demonstration applies everywhere.
My take: the L6 has enough on paper to earn a test drive. I would make the decision on the complete price, how it drives and the support available near home. Start a shortlist in our electric-car comparison, then let the car do the persuading.
