The short version
What you need to know.
- Buying preview, not a hands-on review: we have not tested the Titan 300.
- ALDI advertises $499 from Saturday 24 October; check local availability.
- Check pool compatibility, handling, replacement parts and the supplied warranty paperwork.
Before sale day
ALDI is adding a $499 cordless robotic pool cleaner to its Special Buys on Saturday 24 October. That is enough to get the attention of anyone currently spending their weekends pushing a vacuum around the pool.
But a cheap pool robot only becomes good value if it suits your pool and you can keep it running. Here is what we can verify before sale day, and what still needs checking.
What is ALDI actually selling?
ALDI’s listing calls it a Cordless Robotic Pool Cleaner, with smart navigation and smartphone app control. Its product photos clearly show Pool Set and Titan 300 branding, so this is not a model identification based on a vaguely similar-looking robot.
The advertised Australian price is $499. ALDI warns that product information and prices can differ by store, so treat that as the advertised offer rather than a promise of local stock.
Pool Set describes the Titan 300 as suitable for above-ground and in-ground pools, with floor, wall and waterline cleaning. It also lists a 4.2-litre debris basket and five cleaning modes. Those are manufacturer claims, not results from our testing.
Will it suit your pool?
The manufacturer’s manual lists a maximum pool area of 150 square metres, a maximum depth of three metres, a weight of 8kg and a runtime of 120–150 minutes. Charging is listed at three hours.
Start with your pool’s dimensions and shape, not the price tag. Ask whether the cleaner suits your particular surface, steps and shallow areas. A claim that a robot cleans walls does not tell you how reliably it will negotiate your pool’s awkward corners.
The 8kg weight also deserves attention. Think about where you will retrieve it, empty it and put it away. If lifting equipment over your pool edge is already difficult, cordless convenience will not solve that part.
Cordless does not mean maintenance-free
You are swapping one kind of chore for a different, hopefully smaller one. The useful question is not simply whether it has an app. It is whether retrieving, emptying, charging and storing it fits your routine.
Pool Set’s manual says to use the supplied charger, dry the charging port and keep the device at least three metres from the pool edge while charging. It also says not to enter the pool while the cleaner operates. Read the complete instructions before the first swim or cleaning run.
Check support before the queue
Before buying, establish who supplies replacement filters, brushes and other wear parts, and what those parts cost. A low purchase price is less attractive if a small replacement component becomes difficult to obtain.
The manual’s limited warranty specifies two years for the battery, motor and circuit board, but excludes consumables such as the filter basket, brushes and wheels. Check the paperwork supplied with the ALDI unit rather than assuming every component gets identical cover.
ALDI separately offers a 60-day refund or replacement policy for Special Buys, with proof of purchase and ideally the packaging. That policy and any manufacturer warranty are additional to Australian Consumer Law rights.
The Compare take
At $499, this is worth investigating, not blindly recommending. The specifications make it an interesting option for someone wanting less manual cleaning without immediately spending more.
We have not tested its navigation, debris pickup or long-term reliability. Check pool compatibility, handling and replacement-part support first. If those boxes are ticked, the price becomes meaningful. If they are not, a Special Buys sticker will not make it the right robot.
